Answer:

  • -7 is the value of k.

Step-by-step explanation:

p(x) = 2x³ + kx² + 11x + k + 3.

g(x) = 2x - 1

When g(x) is divided by p(x).

=> 2x - 1 = 0

=> 2x = 1

=> x = 1/2

p(1/2) = 2(1/2)³ + k(1/2)² + 11(1/2) + k + 3 = 0

=> 2(1/8) + k(1/4) + 11(1/2) + k + 3 = 0

=> 2/8 + k/4 + 11/2 + k + 3 = 0

=> 2 + 2k + 44 + 8k +24/8 = 0

=> 70 + 10k = 0

=> 70 = -10k

=> k = 70/-10

∴ k = -7
