Find the value of lambda in the unit vector 0.4 i + 0.8 j + lambda k

Answer:

According to the question, unit vector = 0.4i+0.8j+bk

And we know that unit vector is 1

So we get,  1 = 0.4i+0.8j+bk

now we have to calculate square roots in both the sides for the above equation and now we get

1² = (0.4i + 0.8j + bk )²

⇒ 1 = 0.16 + 0.64 + b²

⇒ 1- 0.8 = b²

⇒ b² = 0.2

so, b = √ 0.2 = +-(0.45)

Then the value of b is ±0.44
