Given question:

3m + n =  - 1 -  -  -  - (1)

m - n =  - 3 -  -  -  - (2)

now take the value of m from equation (2) and put it in equation (1)

so we get,

m =  - 3 + n

so equation (1) will be:

3( - 3 + n) + n =  - 1

 - 9 + 3n + n =  - 1 \\ 4n =  - 1 + 9 \\ n =  \frac{8}{4}  \\ n = 2

now put the value of n in equation (2)

then

m = -1
