According to the question :

p - 3 = 2 p + 1 \\ \\ = > p - 2p = 1 + 3 \\ \\ = > - p = 4 \\ \\ = > p = \frac{4}{ - 1} \\ \\ = > p = - 4

So the answer will be -4 .

Verification of my answer :

( - 4) - 3 = 2( - 4) + 1 \\ \\ = > - 4 - 3 = - 8 + 1 \\ \\ = > - 7 = - 7
