EXPLANATION.

point are = (-5,1),(1,p),(4,-2) are collinear

TO FIND VALUE OF P.

Conditions of collinear

x1 ( y2 - y3) + x2 ( y3 - y1) + x3 ( y1 - y2) = 0

x1 = -5

x2 = 1

x3 = 4

y1 = 1

y2 = p

y3 = -2

-5[p - (-2) ] + 1 [ -2 - 1 ] + 4 [ 1 - p ] = 0

-5 [ p + 2] + 1 [ -3] + 4 - 4p = 0

-5p - 10 - 3 + 4 - 4p = 0

-9p - 9 = 0

-9p = 9

p = -1

Therefore value of p = -1
