we know a2-a1 =d

also a3 -a2 =d

therefore a2 - a1 = a3 - a2

that is p + 3 - (p - 1 )  = 3p - 1 - ( p + 3)

           p + 3 - p +1    = 3p - 1 -p -3

          p- p + 3+ 1      = 3p - p - 1 - 3

                 3+ 1         =   2p -4

                    4          = 2p - 4

   that is 2p - 4        =  4

              2p              = 4 + 4

              2 p             = 8

                 p            = 8/2

                 p            = 4
