Putting the value of x in given equation,
=> x⁴ -3x³ -px - 5 = 23
=> (-2)⁴ - 3(-2)³ - (-2)p - 5 = 23
=> 16 -3(-8) +2p = 23 + 5
=> 16 + 24 + 2p = 28
=> 40 + 2p = 28
=> 2p = 28-40
=> 2p = -12
=> p = -12/2
=> p = -6
