SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The value of sec C from the given figure

EVALUATION

We take a point D on the figure

From the given figure

BD = 4 unit

BC = 12 unit

By Pythagorean Theorem

CD

 \sf{ =  \sqrt{ {12}^{2} -  {4}^{2}  }  \:  \:  \: unit}

 \sf{ =  \sqrt{ 144 - 16 }  \:  \:  \: unit}

 \sf{ =  \sqrt{ 128 }  \:  \:  \: unit}

 \sf{ =8  \sqrt{ 2 }  \:  \:  \: unit}

∴ sec C

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{BC}{CD} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{12}{8 \sqrt{2} } }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{3}{2 \sqrt{2} } }
