Now AD is the median as well as an altitude.

Therefore BD = DC

Let AB = 2a

BD=1/2BC

Or BD= 1/2 AB

I.e BD = a

Now in triangle ABD,

AB^2=AD^2 + BD^2

Or (2a)^2= AD^2 + a^2

4a^2-a^2= AD^2

AD^2=3a^2

AD=√3a


Sin 60°= P/H = √3a/2a = √3/2
