Suppose males are M and females are F

Then M+F=8000———(1)

After increase 6% for male and 10% for female

(M+M×6/100)+(F+F×10/100)=8600

Or 106M/100 +110F/100 =8600

Or 1.06 M +1.10 F = 8600 —————(2)

Multiplying Equation (1) by 1.06

1.06 M+ 1.06 F =1.06×8000

Or 1.06M +1.06 F =8480 ————(3)

Deduct eq (3) from eq (2)

0.04 F =120

Or F =120/0.04

Or F =3000

So females were 3000 and rest males 5000.

Testing for correctness

Increase 10% in Females =3000×10/100=300

And increase 6% in males =5000×6/100 =300

Total increase =300+300=600

So present population =8000+600=8600
