Step-by-step explanation:

1 x+y=74 & 2 x = y+6(assuming x is larger)

This can be solved by usual formula of x + (x+6) = 74

Lets try other way.

74/2 gives the average of 2 numbers, 37.

Since one of the numbers is 6 less or 6 more than each other.

The half of difference(6)/2 > 3 can be added & substracted from average that gives expected numbers.

I.E 37–3& 37+3, 34 & 40

Hence 34 & 40 are the numbers
