Answer:

1. In the first fig. the one length of the rect. is given as 2x+1cm while the second length is given as 17cm.

We know, in a rect. opposite sides are equal.

Therefore,

2x+1=17

2x=17-1

2x=16

x=16/2

x=8

2. In this fig. one side of a square is given as x+2cm and the other side as 48cm.

We know, all sides of a square are equal.

Therefore,

x+2=48

x=48-2

x=46cm

a.     opposite sides are equal in a rectangle ,                      

      therfore ,

                    2x + 1 = 17 cm    

                    2x = 17 - 1

                    2x = 16

                     x = 16/ 2    = 8

therfore , x = 8

b.      all sides of square are equal   ,

       therfore ,

                     x + 2 = 48 cm

                     x= 48 - 2

                     x = 46

therfore , x = 46
