Since it's a rectangle....

So, opposite sides are equal in length

That is,

3X+Y = 7.........(1) and

X+3Y = 13.......(2)

Multiplying (2) by 3, the equation becomes,

3X+9Y = 39....(3)

Now, subtracting (3) from (1),

3X+9Y = 39

- 3X+Y = 7

———————

8Y = 32

Y = 32/8

Y = 4

Now, substituting value of Y in equation (1),

3X+Y = 7

Since, Y = 4

So, 3X + 4 = 7

3X = 7 - 4

3X = 3

So, X = 1

X = 1, Y = 4
