let x+y= m

and x-y=n

a(x+y) =b(x-y) =2ab

am=bn=2ab

am=2ab

m=2ab/a

m=2b

x+y=2b..... 1

b(x-y)=2ab

bn=2ab

n=2ab/b

n=2a

x-y=2a.......2

from eq 1 and 2 we get,

x=2(a+b) /2

=a+b

y=2b-(a+b)

=2b-a-b

=b-a
