Find the value of x and y if
x + 8y = 26
x + y = 5

let x+y=5 be Equation Number 1

and x+8y= 26 be Equation Number 2

x+y=5, x=5-y Equation number 3

Substituting equation 3 in equation 2 we get,

x+8y= 26

5-y+8y=26

7y=21

y=3

Now substituting value of y in Equation 3

x=5-3

x=2

Therefore values of x and y are 3 and 2 respectively.
