Question given :

  • Find the value of x and y in the given figure

Given :

  • A kite ABCD
  • Two triangles ADC and ABC
  • Angle ADC = 70°
  • Angle ABC = 60°

Required solution :

As we are given with this that the sides AD , DC and AB , AC are equal .

We can observe two isosceles triangles being formed in this case .

We also know that the angles formed on the equal sides of an isosceles triangle are equal so thus ,

= Angle DAC = Angle DCA = y

= Angle BAC = Angle BCA = x

So , by using angle sum property in triangle ABC we get ,

= Angle ABC + Angle BCA + Angle CAB = 180

= 60 + x + x = 180

= 2x = 180 - 60

= 2x = 120

= x = \dfrac{120}{2}

= x = 60

So angle x measure upto 60°

In triangle ADC by using angle sum property we get ,

= Angle ADC + Angle DCA + Angle CAD = 180

= 70 + y + y = 180

= 2y = 180 - 70

= 2y = 110

= y = \:\dfrac{110}{2}

= y = 55

So angle y measure upto 55°
