1) x+2y = 6....(1)

-x+2y = 4....(2)

(1)+(2)

x+2y-x+2y = 6+4

4y = 10

y= 10/4

♠y= 2.5

by putting value of y in equation 1

x+2(2.5)= 6

x+5= 6

♠x= 1

2)x+y = 5...(1)

4x+2y = 1...(2)

2(2x+y)= 1

dividing 2 on both sides

2x+y = 1/2..(3)

(1)-(3)

(x+y)-(2x+y)= 5-1/2

x+y-2x-y = 9/2

-x= 4.5

♣x= -4.5

by putting value of x in equation 1

-4.5+y= 5

y= 5+4.5

♣y= 9.5
