Answer:

 x+y=5   \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: (multiply \: by \: 2) \\ 2x + 2y = 10 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: ........1 \\  2x+3y =4 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: ........2 \\ subtract \: 1 \: and \: 2 \\ 2x + 2y - (2x + 3y) = 10 - 4 \\ 2x + 2y - 2x - 3y = 6 \\  - y = 6 \\ y =  - 6 \\ now \: put \: the \: value \: of \: y \: in \: x + y = 5 \\ x  - 6 = 5 \\ x = 5 + 6 \\ x = 11

x+y=5

y=5-x....1

2x+3y=4

now we will put the value of y in this expression that we have found

2x+3(5-x)=4

2x+15-3x=4

-x+15=4

now we will take the sign of negative as common and shift it to right side

-(x-15)=4

x-15=-4

x=15-4

x=11

Now we will find the value of y

x+y=5

11+y=5

y=5-11

y=-6

So

x=11 and y=-6
