Given : ABCDEFGH is a octagon in which all sides is equal to 5 cm HC= 10 cm AL is perpendicular to HC & AL = 2 cm
Find area of octagon
Proof : By observation we see ABHC is a trapezium
so area = 1/2×(5+10)×2
= 15 cm ^2
HCGD is a rectangle
so area = 10×5 = 50 cm^2
draw FI is perpendicular to GD
so FI = AL and FE = AB ( By construction)
FEGD is a trapezium
area = 1/2×(5+10)×2
= 15 cm^2
hence
Area of Octagon = area of rectangle + area of trapezium + area of trapezium
=( 50+15 + 15)
= 80 cm^2
