SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The value of x for which 5x - 4 and 4x + 1 are equal

EVALUATION

Here we are proceeding to find the value of x for which 5x - 4 and 4x + 1 are equal

 \therefore \:  \:  \sf{5x - 4 = 4x + 1}

 \implies\sf{5x - 4x = 4 + 1}

 \implies\sf{x = 5}

Hence the required value of x = 5

VERIFICATION

Here the given expression is 5x - 4 = 4x + 1

Putting x = 5 we get

LHS

= ( 5 × 5 ) - 4

= 25 - 4

= 21

RHS

= ( 4 × 5 ) + 1

= 20 + 1

= 21

∴ LHS = RHS

Hence verified
