sum of digits = 4+1+7+x+8 = 20+x

the number divisible by 9 in 20 s is 27

so 20+x= 27

x= 27-20

x= 7

Solution :-

We know that,

  • When sum of all digits of a number is divisible by 9 , the given number is also divisible by 9 .

So,

→ 417x8 ÷ 9 = Remainder 0

→ (4 + 1 + 7 + x + 8) ÷ 9 = Remainder 0

→ (20 + x) ÷ 9 = Remainder 0

since x is a one digit number , possible value of x is from 0 to 9 .

As we know that,

→ 9 * 3 = 27

27 is the only multiple of 9 with 2 as ten's digit .

therefore,

→ (20 + 7) ÷ 9 = Remainder 0 .

→ 27 ÷ 9 = Remainder 0 .

Hence, value of x is equal to 7 .
