Case:- 1

Correct questions

Find the value of x for which the numbers (5x + 2), (4x-1) and (x + 2) are in A.p.

Solution

We have

a₁ = (5x + 2 ) , a₂= 4x - 1 and a₃=x + 2

We know

To find Common Difference (d)

a₂-a₁ = a₃-a₂

(4x -1)-(5x+2) = (x+ 2 ) - (4x -1)

4x - 1 - 5x -2 = x + 2 - 4x + 1

-x - 3 = -3x + 3

-x + 3x = 3+3

2x =6

x = 6/2

x = 3

Case:-2

Correct questions

Find the value of x for which the numbers (5x + 2), (4-x) and (x + 2) are in A.p.

Solution

We have

a₁ = (5x + 2 ) , a₂= 4 - x and a₃=x + 2

We know

To find Common Difference (d)

a₂-a₁ = a₃-a₂

(4 -x)-(5x+2) = (x+ 2 ) - (4 -x)

4 - x - 5x -2 = x + 2 - 4 + x

2 - 6x = 2x -2

-6x -2x = -2-2

-8x = -4

x = 4/8

x = 1/2
