By the Pythagoras Theorem,
(Hypotenuse)^2 = (Base)^2 + (Height)^2
(x+2)^2= (400)^2 + (x)^2
x^2 + 4x + 4 = 160000 + x^2
Cancelling x^2 from LHS and RHS.
4x+4=160000
4x=159996
x=39999
So the value of x is 39999 cm or 399.99 m.
