Given :

Arithmetic mean of 3,5,6,2,10,x is 5

To find :

The value of x

Solution :

Arithmetic mean = (Sum of the observation ÷ No. of observation)

Sum of the observations = 3 + 5+ 6 + 2 + 10 + x

                                          = 26 + x

No. of observation = 6

Arithmetic mean of six observations = 5

As per question,

    Arithmetic mean   =   \frac{26 + x}{6}

⇒         5                      =  \frac{26 + x}{6}

⇒        30                     =  26 + x

⇒        x                        =  4

Therefore, the value of x is found to be 4.
