Question :

Find the value of x, if the following ratios are in direct proportion:

(i) 7.5:6 and x : 18

Solution:

(i) 7.5:6 and x : 18

\frac{7.5}{6} = \frac{x}{18}

\frac{7.5 * 18}{6} = x

x= 7.5 * 3

x = 22.5

Ratios in direct proportion :: \frac{7.5}{6} = \frac{22.5}{18}

Proportion is all about an equation having ratio on each side. It can also be said as ratio equal both sides i.e. LHS and RHS.

If three numbers are know in ratios as in above question we can find the fourth one by cross multiplying them.
