after cross multipication
${(x - 2)}^{2} = {x}^{2} - {4}^{2}$
${x}^{2} + 4 - 4x = {x}^{2} - 16$
$- 4x = - 16 - 4$
$x = \frac{ - 20}{ - 4}$
x=-5
