Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

4x-1:3=6x+1:5

To find :-

Find the value of x in the proportion ?

Solution :-

Given that :

4x-1:3=6x+1:5

Means = 3 and 6x+1

Extremes = 4x-1 and 5

Since they are in the Proportion

Product of extremes = (4x-1)(5)

=> 4x(5)-1(5)

=>20x-5

Product of extremes = 20x-5 ------(1)

Product of means = 3×(6x+1)

=> 3(6x)+3×1

=>18x +3

Product of means = 18x +3 --------(2)

We know that

In Proportion, The product of extremes is equal to the product of means

=> (1) = (2)

=> 20x-5 = 18x +3

=> 20x -18x = 3+5

=> 2x = 8

=> x = 8/2

=> x = 4

Therefore x = 4

Answer:-

The value of x for the given problem is 4

Check :-

If x = 4 then the given problem becomes

4x-1:3=6x+1:5

=> 4(4)-1 : 3 = 6(4)+1 : 5

=> 16-1 : 3 = 24+1 :5

=> 15 : 3 = 25 : 5

Product of extremes = 15×5 = 75

Product of means = 3×25 = 75

So they are in the Property.

Verified the given relations in the given problem.

Used formulae:-

  • In Proportion, The product of extremes is equal to the product of means

Points to know :-

  • Equality of ratios is called Proportion.

  • The symbol for Proportion is :: and it is read as "is as "

  • If a ,b,c,d are in the proportion a:b ::c:d then bc= ad
