Let a1 = 8x-4 a2 = 6x+2 and a3= 2x+4

d= a2-a1

 = 6x+2 -(8x-4)

 = 6x+2-8x+4

 = 6 - 2x

a3 = a1 + 2d

2x + 4 = 8x - 4 + 2(-2x + 6)

2x + 4 = 8x -4 -4 x + 12

2x + 4 = 4x + 8

4 - 8 = 4x - 2x

-4 = 2x

x = -4/2

x = -2
