Question

 \frac{6x - 2}{5}  =  \frac{2x - 1}{3}  -  \frac{1}{3}

Solution

 \frac{6x - 2}{5}  =  \frac{2x - 1}{3}  -  \frac{1}{3}

  \longrightarrow \:  \frac{6x - 2}{5} =  \frac{2x - 1 - 1}{3}

» LCM is 3 since the denominators are same in the RHS

  \longrightarrow \: \frac{6x - 2}{5} =  \frac{2x-2}{3}

By cross multiplication ,

 \longrightarrow3(6x - 2) = 5(2x-2)

 \longrightarrow18x - 6 = 10x-10

 \longrightarrow18x - 10x = 6-10

 \longrightarrow8x = -4

x =  \frac{-4}{8}  =  \frac{-1}{2}

Therefore the value of x = - 1/2 = -0.5

Linear equation is expressed in the form of ax+b = 0

where it has one variable .

eg, 4m - 3 = 7m + 2

» 4m - 7m = 2 + 3

› -3m = 5

→ m = - 5/ 3
