 \frac{x + 3}{x + 11} = \frac{x - 2}{x + 1}

cross multiplication

= x + 3 ( x + 1 ) = x + 11 ( x - 2 )

= x² + x + 3x + 3 = x² - 2x + 11x -22

= x² + 4x + 3 = x² + 9x - 22

= x² - x² + 9x - 4x = 22 - 3

= 5x = 25

= x =

 \frac{25}{5}  = 5
