x - y = y (2)

By Substitution method ,

Substitute eq. 1.

x - y = y

x = 2y (3)

Put this value in eq. 1.

2y + y = 24

3y = 24

y =  \frac{24}{3}

y = 8

Now, put the value of y in eq. 3.

x = 2 \times 8

x = 16

Hence , the value of x = 16 and y = 16
