Step-by-step explanation:

5x - 2y = 4.........(1) \\ x + 8y = 26.........(2) \\ putting \: equation \: 1 \: and \: 2 \\ 5x - 2y = 4 \\ 5x +  40y = 130 \\  -  \:  \:  \:  \:  -  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  -  \\  =  =  =  =  =  =  =  =  =  \\  - 42y =  - 126 \\ y =  \frac{126}{42}  =  > 3 \\ now \: putting \: the \: value \: of \: y \: in \: 1 \\ 5x - 2y = 4 \\ 5x - 2 \times 3 = 4 \\ 5x = 4 + 6 \\ 5x = 10 \\ x = 2

hence

the value of X+Y=2+3

=5

The value is x+y=5.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Equations 5x-2y=4 and  x+8y=26

To find : The value of  x+y  ?

Solution :

5x-2y=4 .....(1)

x+8y=26 .....(2)

Substitute the value of x from (2) in (1),

5(26-8y)-2y=4

130-40y-2y=4

42y=126

y=\frac{126}{42}

y=3

Substitute the value in (2),

x+8(3)=26

x=26-24

x=2

Now add the value of x and y,

x+y=2+3

x+y=5

Therefore, the value is x+y=5.
