Equations 5x-2y=45x−2y=4 and x+8y=26x+8y=26

To find : The value of x+yx+y ?

Solution :

5x-2y=45x−2y=4 .....(1)

x+8y=26x+8y=26 .....(2)

Substitute the value of x from (2) in (1),

5(26-8y)-2y=45(26−8y)−2y=4

130-40y-2y=4130−40y−2y=4

42y=12642y=126

y=\frac{126}{42}y=

42

126

y=3y=3

Substitute the value in (2),

x+8(3)=26x+8(3)=26

x=26-24x=26−24

x=2x=2

Now add the value of x and y,

x+y=2+3x+y=2+3

x+y=5x+y=5

Therefore, the value is x+y=5x+y=5 .
