86 = y. ( alternate angle)

so,

y = 86

120 = x ( alternate angle)

so,

x = 120

Question

Find the value of x + y in the given figure.

Answer

Value of x = 80 and y = 60

And x + y = 140cm

Given

  • ∠A = 60°
  • ∠B = 80°
  • ∠C = 120°

To Calculate

  • Value of x + y

Solution

➞ ∠DCB + y = 180° [ Linear Pair ]

➞ 120° + y = 180°

➞ y = 180° - 120°

➞ y = 60°

In quad. ABCD

➞ ∠A + ∠B + ∠C + ∠D = 360° [Angle Sum Property]

➞ 60° + 80° + 120° + ∠D = 360°

➞ ∠D + 260° = 360°

➞ ∠D = 360° - 260°

➞ ∠D = 100°

➞ ∠ADC + x = 180° [ Linear Pair ]

➞ 100° + x = 180°

➞ x = 180° - 100°

➞x = 80°

Value of x = 80° and y = 60°

x + y = 80° + 60° = 140°

Therefore, value of x + y is 140°
