To find : the value of y

Given ratio : 4: 12 =  3: y

Solution :

  • As we can see that in the given ratio  forth ratio is missing.
  • To find forth ratio to make ratio equivalent we can write 4: 12 = 3: y

       as, \frac{4}{12}=\frac{3}{y}

  • transposing like terms we get,

    $$\Rightarrow \quad y=\frac{3 \times 12}{4}$$

  • On simplifying we get,

    $$\begin{array}{l}\Rightarrow y =3\times 3 \\\Rightarrow y =9\end{array}$$

Hence, value of y is 9 .
