Answer :

y = 2

Solution :

Here ,

The given system of simultaneous equations is :

3x + 2/y = 7 ------(1)

x + 4/y = 4 -------(2)

Now ,

Multiplying eq-(1) by 2 , we have ;

=> 2•(3x + 2/y) = 2•7

=> 6x + 4/y = 14 ------(3)

Now ,

Subtracting eq-(2) from eq-(3) , we have ;

=> (6x + 4/y) - (x + 4/y) = 14 - 4

=> 6x + 4/y - x - 4/y = 10

=> 5x = 10

=> x = 10/5

=> x = 2

Now ,

Putting x = 2 in eq-(2) , we get ;

=> x + 4/y = 4

=> 2 + 4/y = 4

=> 4/y = 4 - 2

=> 4/y = 2

=> 4 = 2y

=> y = 4/2

=> y = 2

Hence , y = 2 .
