Given

ax²-6x-2 = 0

it has equal roots

Solution

Apply quadratic formula

D = - 4ac

then

a= a b = -6 c = -2

D = (-6)²- 4×a×(-2)= 0

D = 36 +8a = 0

36 + 8a = 0

8a = -36

a = -36/8

a = -9/2

Given :

Find the value(s) of a for which ax² - 6x - 2 = 0 has equal roots

Solution :

Applying quadratic formula to solve this question

ax² - 6x -2 = 0

a = a b = -6 c = -2

D = b² - 4ac

D = (-6)²-4×a×(-2) = 0

D = 36 + 8a = 0

8a = -36
