if (x-1) and (x-2) are the factors of the given polynomial, then putting x=1 and x=2 in the polynomial should give us the value 0.

After putting the values, the two equations are

a+b=9 and 2a+b=32,

after solving them,

we get the answer as a=23 and b= -14.

hope it helps.
