The value of k = 5 for which one root of the quadratic equation kx² - 14x + 8 = 0 is 2

Given :

The quadratic equation kx² - 14x + 8 = 0

To find :

The value of k for which one root of the quadratic equation is 2

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Write down the given Quadratic equation

The given Quadratic equation is

kx² - 14x + 8 = 0

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the value of k

Here it is given that one root of the quadratic equation kx² - 14x + 8 = 0 is 2

So by the given condition

 \displaystyle \sf{  k \times  {2}^{2} - (14 \times 2) + 8 = 0 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies 4k  - 28+ 8 = 0 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies 4k  - 20= 0 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies 4k  =  20 }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies k  =   \frac{20}{4}  }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies k  = 5}

Hence the required value of k = 5
