Given  :  3x + my = 1, 2x – 7y = 5

To Find : Value of m for unique solution

Solution:

a₁x+ b₁y=c₁

a₂x+b₂y=c₂

Consistent

if a₁/a₂ ≠ b₁/b₂  ( unique solution)

a₁/a₂ = b₁/b₂ = c₁/c₂  ( infinite solution )

Inconsistent

if  a₁/a₂ = b₁/b₂ ≠  c₁/c₂  ( No solution)

3x + my = 1

2x – 7y = 5

3/2  ≠  m/(-7)

=> m  ≠ -21/2

=> m ≠ -10.5

m ≠ -10.5  will have a unique solution.
