It is given that the two sides are equal. [ The two '=' symbols on the line represents that the lines are equal. ]

Hence we can say that equal lines subtend equal angles at the opposite sides.  Therefore y and 50° are equal.

⇒ y = 50°

Now x is an exterior angle. According to a theorem, the exterior angle is the sum of opposite interior angles. Therefore we can say that,

⇒ x = y + 50

⇒ x = 50 + 50

⇒ x = 100°

Hence the value of x is 100° and that of y is 50°.
