Given:

Slant height,

l = 17 cm

Radius,

r = 8 cm

To find:

Volume of a cone = ?

Solution:

According to the question,

The height of the cone will be:

= \sqrt{l^2-r^2}

On putting the given values, we get

= \sqrt{17^2-8^2}

= \sqrt{289-64}

= \sqrt{225}

= 15 \ cm

The volume of a cone will be:

= \frac{1}{3} \pi \ r^2 \ h

On substituting the above values, we get

= \frac{1}{3}\times \frac{22}{7}\times (8)^2\times 15

= \frac{1}{3}\times \frac{22}{7}\times 64\times 15

= \frac{22\times 64\times 5}{7}

= 1005.71 \ cm^2

Thus, the volume will be "1005.71 cm²".
