Dimension of outer cuboid

Length = 12 cm
Width = 10 cm
Height = 7 cm

Volume of outer cuboid = 12*7*10
= 840 cm^3

Dimension of inner cuboid

Length = 12 - 2 = 10 cm
Width = 10 - 2 = 8 cm
Height = 7 - 2 = 5 cm

Volume of inner cuboid = 10 * 8 * 5
= 400 cm^3

Volume of metal Required = Volume of outer cuboid - Volume of inner cuboid

Volume of metal Required = 840 - 400
= 440 cm^3

Hi there.....
Imagine there are two boxes....one is inside the other
The measurements of the external one are given
So volume=12 x 7 x 10 = 840 cubic cm

Measurements of the internal box will be 12-2 x 7-2 x 10-2
Volume = 10 x 5 x 8= 400cubic cm
Therefore volume of the box(which was needed in the first place)=volume of the external box - volume of the internal box
=840-400
=440 cubic cm

Thanks....
