Outer V= 21.25×13.75×10.75 (add thickness of wood to each dimension)

Outer V= 3,141.015625 cm^3

Inner V=20×12.5×9.5

V=2375

V of wood=766.015625 cm^3

Given,

The internal dimensions of the box = 20cm × 12.5cm × 9.5cm

Thickness of the wood = 1.25 cm

To find,

The volume of the required wood.

Solution,

First of all, we have to calculate the internal volume of the box.

Internal volume = (20×12.5×9.5) = 2375 cm²

Dimensions of the total box including the thickness of the wood :

Length = 20 + (1.25×2) = 22.5 cm

Width = 12.5 + (1.25×2) = 15 cm

Height = 9.5 + (1.25×2) = 12 cm

Volume of the whole box including the wood

= (22.5×15×12)

= 4050 cm²

Volume of the wood = (4050-2375) = 1675 cm²

Hence, the volume of the wood is 1675 cm².
