Answer:

2

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number be  x

2x^2 + x = 10

2x^2 +x -10 = 0

2x^2   -4x +5x -10 = 0

2x ( x -2) +5( x-2) = 0

( 2x +5) ( x-2) = 0

x = - 5/2 OR 2

Answer = 2

Given : Twice the square of a whole number added to itself makes 10

To find : The said whole number.

Solution :

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process. (our goal is to calculate the said whole number)

Let, the whole number = x

So, the square of the whole number :

= x²

According to the data mentioned in the question,

(2 × x²) + x = 10

2x²+x-10 = 0

2x²-4x+5x-10 = 0

2x(x-2) + 5(x-2) = 0

(x-2) (2x+5) = 0

Either,

(x-2) = 0

x = 2

Or,

(2x+5) = 0

2x = -5

x = -5/2

As, the said number is a whole number, so we will omit x = -5/2

Hence, the whole number is 2
