a.let the required number be x
then,according to question,
70%of x is 40 minutes
so,70x/100=40
x=40*100/70=57.14 minutes(approx)
now,
b.let the required number be x,
Then,
according to question,
28%of x=1540
28x/100=1540
x=1540*100/28=5500
so,required answer is Rs.5500
