The Indian War of Independence - Marxist History

  • The Indian War of Independence did not lead to the rise of Marxism or Marxist ideas or Communist and Socialist ideas, in general.
  • The Indian War of Independence was fought for a long time. The first major revolt however came in 1857. It is known as the Sepoy Mutiny. It is named so because Sepoys or Indian policemen or soldiers under British command carried out a large-scale non-cooperation style movement.
  • Push came to shove in 1947 when the British, for all practical purposes, had extracted the maximum of the enormous wealth of India. Moreover, politicians like Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhash Chandra Bose had rallied the population of India to oppose the British in their own respective ways.
