so,
3y + 4y = 28
7y = 28
y = 4
no. of ladies = 12
no. of gents = 16

now,
$\frac{12 + x}{16} = \frac{5}{4} \\ \frac{12 + x}{4} = 5 \\ 12 + x = 20 \\ x = 8$
so, 8 women joined the party
