a) p(x)=3x²+11x-4
- 0=3x²+11x-4
- 0=3x²+11x-40= 3x² +12x -x -4
- 0=3x(x+4) -1(x+4)
- 0= (3x-1)(x+4)
either
- 3x-1=0
- 3x=1
- x=1/3
or
- x+4=0
- x=-4
hence the value of x is 1/3 and -4
c).p(x)=x² + 7x + 10
- x² + 7x + 10
- 0=x² + 7x + 10
- 0=x² + 2x +5x + 10
- 0= x(x+2) +5(x+2)
- 0=(x+2)(x+5)
either
- x+2=0
- x=-2
or
- x+5=0
- x=-5
hence the value of x is -5 and -2.
b)x²-3
- p(x)=x² -3
- 0=x²-3
- x=sqrt (-3)
