Solution :

The given polynomial is

p(x) = 8x² - 19x - 15

= 8x² - (24 - 5)x - 15

= 8x² - 24x + 5x - 15

= 8x (x - 3) + 5 (x - 3)

= (x - 3) (8x + 5)

Therefore, the zeroes of the given polynomial are 3 & (- 5/8)

If α and β be the zeroes of p(x)

  • α + β = - (- 19/8) = 19/8
  • αβ = - 15/8

Sum of zeroes = 3 - 5/8 = (24 - 5)/8 = 19/8

Product of zeroes = 3 (- 5/8) = - 15/8

Hence, proved.
